Soccer is a great sport. It does not need energy for the game. It entertains Millions of people over the globe. And tons of money are spent for the right to watch games on TV. This has led to transfer prices of up to over 200 Mio USD for one single player. When a club nowadays gets a good player for 20 Mio, this is seen as a “cheap” transfer.
We think, that first league soccer clubs should donate at least 1% of their transfer amounts to sustainable projects. And also FIFA, who is shuffling millions and millions into their pockets, should contribute a reasonable percentage of their profits to such projects. We would also welcome investments into profit driven sustainable projects which offset carbon dioxide emissions.
